    Downtown Women's Center

NestFeathers, Perch Projects’ non-profit organization, gathered over 100 volunteers with a diverse range of skills and a common commitment to love, listening and design to create this center that houses and elevates the female residents of Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles. The team of architects, philanthropists, designers, homeless advocates and homeless community members began the 2-year project by holding design charettes with future residents to identify the needs and challenges of those whose voices matter most. Armed with a clear vision of their end goal, they then transformed a 67,000 square foot former factory space into 72 residential units, day rooms, a health center and administrative offices to both meet those needs and celebrate the personal dignity and beauty of the women who live there.
